About
Suti~Tooti
Suti~Tooti (born Stephen Collier Payne) is a 26 year old independent alternative rap artist crafting music at the intersection of vulnerability, technology, and memory. Born in Indianapolis and now based in San Jose, CA, his work blends melodic hip-hop with emotionally charged storytelling, shaped by a life spent both online and inward. A lifelong multi-instrumentalist, Suti approaches music as a personal archive — a way to process identity, isolation, and the seemingly small moments that define us.

A face behind the voice.
Raised on anime, games, and Japanese music culture — including J-pop, J-rock, and Vocaloid — Suti gravitated early toward expressive, unconventional art forms. The emotionally unfiltered worlds of Eve and Kikuo left a lasting imprint, encouraging a style that embraces discomfort, theatricality, and emotional honesty. Years of navigating depression further pushed his writing inward, where music became less about performance and more about survival.
In the late 2010s, Suti rediscovered hip-hop through introspective voices such as Kendrick Lamar, JID, and Token. Beginning in 2021, he further developed his melodic instincts through extensive cover work — particularly drawing from the vulnerable, genre-blurring sound of Tory Lanez. This period became foundational to his vocal approach, shaping a balance between raw confession, melody-forward hooks, and emotional immediacy.
Since his 2022 debut It Was Only Four Years, Suti has built an expansive, genre-fluid discography spanning alternative rap, electronic R&B, bossa-influenced pop, and experimental concept records. His 2024 viral single “Dive in The Lava” marked a turning point, followed by the cinematic From Us, Pt. 1 & 2 series, earning press attention and industry praise. Balancing a parallel career in software engineering, Suti continues to build both music and infrastructure on his own terms — guided by authenticity, introspection, and empathy.
